Top 10 Most Hated Music Genres. Ever.

with 290 comments

You could be in your car. Or walking past someone else’s car. Or just in your room minding your own business. It doesn’t matter where you are. But sometimes, when you least expect it, all of mother culture’s fury collides in a wave of malicious fate, and you suddenly find yourself exposed to someone else’s horrific, unforgivable taste in music. Sorry, man. It happens to everyone. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Except what I’m doing, which is blogging about it. Here are the top 10 most detested genres of music, as per the average, reasonable person (i.e., me). You might not personally hate all of them – but realize that most people do. So do the world a favor and stop liking them now.

nickelback10. Hillbilly Rock. What? I’m talking about that goatee-sporting, tricep-flexing, urban cowboy grunge that seems to dominate mainstream rock airwaves. These are the bands who sort of sound like metal, but they drape themselves in an arrogant, pseudo-patriotic aggro vibe that endears them to guys who drive raised pickups and their drunken, bar-fighting girlfriends. This is when they’re not writing whiny ballads about how messed up their childhoods were. All of it actually sounds like one band (who might be called Three Doors of CreetherNickelMudd) who shoots all of their videos on the same crumbling hilltop and buys all of their clothes from the same Dickeys outlet. They’re around because radio DJs have to play them or else, and some people are tricked into liking them because they hear them on the radio all day. But in reality, everyone else hates them passionately.

techno ravers9. Techno. Dave Chappelle’s famous commercial satire depicting a rave girl groovin’ down in the passenger seat of a speeding car highlights the general public’s disdain for this mindless music genre, and so does the fact that no one really hears techno through mainstream channels. Maybe it’s because overhearing techno is akin to having your head clubbed by sand-filled pillow cases, or because listening to more than two songs in a row is like being in a sonic hamster wheel. If you can hear the same drawn-out intro, hyperactive buildup, watery bridge and pounding reentry over and over again, you are definitely on something. So, since most people are not tripping balls at any given point during the day, techno music lands square in the “hated genres” bin, where I’m sure it will just wake up the next morning and keep on pumping away.

pop punk8. Pop-Punk. This category also includes everything that sounds like pop-punk, which is more or less anything manipulated by record label execs for the purpose of targeting teenage girls. You’d be surprised, but this also nets a few bands who think they’re metal, indie, and real punk. Because somehow, back in the ’90s, the sweet, pitiable whimper in Tom DeLonge’s singing voice managed to start an unchecked wave of feigned sensitivity in male lead vocalists that happened to spark the maternal drive of white females between ages 13 and 17. And now teenage girls want dirty, smelly 30-something musicians to curl up with them and be their best friend. Wasn’t punk supposed to be ugly and menacing? Hearing this is like watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but somehow scarier.

50 cent7. Gangsta Rap. There’s nothing wrong with songs about killing fools. I want to murder people too sometimes, it’s understandable. The problem here isn’t the lyrical content. It’s the invasive, narcissistic, pretentious psychos who listen to it that ruin it for everyone. They don’t just want to listen to it. They want you to notice that they’re listening to it, and (unless you’re bumping it, too) they want you to be offended about it. They want to be like the red lion from Voltron, storming out of his volcano in an awesome ball of fury to cause earthquakes and blow everything away, and they want to make it crystal clear to the world that they don’t give a crap. In fact, they want to demonstrate they don’t give a crap so much that they’ll get bigger woofers installed, go out in their Hummers for the sole purpose of cruising, and roll down the passenger window when they’re the only one in the car just so everyone will be extra sure they don’t give a crap. I guess they know how to make a point.

kid rock6. Rap-Rock. This is a shining example of how something can become popular purely through hype. Limp Bizkit is not a good band. Kid Rock is not a good band, either. But these guys made the earth-shattering decision to split their time between being rockers and being rappers, and the result is an entire genre of confused musicians who aren’t sure how to act when they go out in public. Maybe they’re doing it because they want the best of both worlds, or because they actually like both styles individually. The problem is, if it weren’t for MTV’s force-feeding it down everybody’s throat, no one would pay attention to them, because people don’t naturally gravitate in that odd, unnatural direction. But the hype worked, and now we have rap-rock. Son of a bitch, y’all.

emo5. Emo. Not that emo is bad. It’s a fairly innocent genre, not too adamant about being shoved in anyone’s face and not especially unpleasant, aside from its pop-punk tendencies. But people really, really hate emo. My guess is it has nothing to do with the music — the haters have latched onto the emo kids themselves. For some reason, emo kids tend to romanticize the idea of being depressed, to the fury of alpha-males, aggros, parents, and people who are actually depressed. Plus, one of the most vexing things about emo people is their stubborn refusal to acknowledge what is actually emo. In fact, one of the easiest ways to identify an emo band is the overwhelming presence of fans who loudly insist they (and the band) are not emo. They dress emo, act emo, like emo things and talk all day about emo, but god forbid anyone label them “emo.” And since these people are too confused and finicky for us to bother figuring out, we just hate them and leave it at that. Sorry.

smooth jazz4. Smooth Jazz. Ford killed the Mustang with the Mustang II. Anheuser-Busch killed beer with the non-alcoholic Bevo. And smooth jazz murdered, befouled and spat upon jazz by extracting its teeth and making it consumable by nattering church folk and Republicans. The music you hear in dentists’ offices, elevators, the weather channel and the supermarket (especially when it’s an instrumental version of a real song) is to jazz what an American Idol contestant is to Aretha Franklin. As a style of music, it’s too timid to stand for anything, but too obnoxious to fade into the background. Instead it stays on the surface of one’s consciousness, chafing incessantly. Corporations use it to add background noise to neutral settings mostly because it doesn’t carry enough substance for anyone to have an opinion on it. But unlike other genres in this list that may provoke disagreement, it’s widely recognized by metalheads, punks, indie kids, oldies, rappers, bluesists, soulsmen, worship rockers, reggaeheads, cowpokes and classicalists alike, that just about everyone has it in for smooth jazz.

gloria estefan3. Adult Contemporary. Need I point out the contempt every youthful heart has for this wet rag of a musical style? The field of adult contemporary has evolved somewhat over the years to include softer alternative hits from the ’90s and 2000s (hilariously including Nickelback, according to Wikipedia). But the kind I’m talking about is the abysmal sap from the ’80s and early ’90s, mostly produced by Christine McVie and Anita Baker. Girls sometimes run to it for comfort after a bad breakup, or to drown out the sound of a screaming infant, but I actually can’t think of a positive social use for it — or at least one that is any fun. I suppose it will forever be the Preparation H of the music world, landing it at number three in this list.

country2. Country. Country music is so hated that it’s even hated by people who don’t care about music. How often have you heard someone say, “I like every kind of music, except country”? What they’re really saying is, “I don’t care enough about music to have an opinion on it, but I still hate country.” Could people really be less than charmed with music that celebrates the underwhelming things in life, like hometown honeymoons, lost rodeos and dysfunctional marriages? Do so many people disagree with old-fashioned, conservative values and vaguely Christian ideologies? Or are they turned off by the overplayed western stereotype that still seems to carry on, even through new Hollywood brats like Hannah Montana? My guess: all of the above, plus the Wal-Mart fascination, the SoCo aggression and the mullet factor. Country music, go away already.

nu metal1. Nu-Metal. Holy god, this music trend is awful. Just trying to describe how bad nu-metal is would probably make me burst a capillary in my brain (and spew gallons of blood everywhere). For most people, seeing bands like Slipknot evokes something closer to laughter and contempt than the whole shock-and-awe thing they’re going for. Goofy face paint worked with KISS because their entire image was about fantastical, otherworldly entertainment; these guys look like they’re still trying to be convincing as tough guys. It’s just another case of confused band identity (see: rap-rock). System of a Down isn’t doing any better by providing the soundtrack to Guantanamo Bay — goats make more pleasant sounds than what comes out of Serj Tankian, and the hyperactive guitar-spazzing makes me pity concert sound guys everywhere. This entire genre seems to be nothing more than a side-effect of trying to push the envelope of musical risk further than your parents pushed it. The problem is, when this wannabe Evil Knievel jumped its bike through the barn loft, it came out covered in chicken feathers and manure. For misguided abrasiveness stemming from a vast misinterpretation of “rebellion,” nu-metal tops this list as the most hated music genre ever. Go sacrifice yourself to something, nu-metal.

Opinions? I’m sure you have them. Go on, let ’em fly in the comments below.

  1. I agree with a lot of this, but with 1 exception: If you do not like System of a Down, your opinion is void.

    • i agree with howie. ur list is very good, but if ur whole basis for the list revolves in a musical taste that doesnt favor system of a down, im wondering wat the fuck ur listening to. i mean, what, do u hate iron maiden and metallica too?

      • How do you hate System of a Down? Easy. It’s simplistic, annoying, commie-rock with a very shrill-voiced lead. Come on man, check out some Cathedral. You’ll see what we’re talking about.

      • I was happy to see the first comment is exactly what I was thinking after reading the article. System of a Down are incredibly talented, ’nuff said.

“nu-metal” is the most pointless tag in all music anyway. Slipknot, Linkin Park and System of a Down are all supposedly “nu-metal”. WTF? They’re not even alike…

      • I don’t really think you’re qualified to decide whether or not a band is “genius.” Overlooking your inability to spell simple words like “you” and “what,” your conclusion that anyone who doesn’t like System of a Down has poor taste in music is ignorant and frankly, stupid.

The only thing that System of Down has accomplished in their career is the injection of pseudo-political and social messages into cacophonic thrash metal. While their hearts may be in the right place, their message falls on the apparently deaf ears of their fans. Sorry, but if you think that they have anything close to musical talent, you must be either hard-of-hearing or just simply retarded.

I hope you’re able to fix all of the social injustice in the world by listening to B.Y.O.B. way too loud on your Sony headphones, which were probably made by a four-year-old in some third world country. I’m glad that someone has decided to get out there and use awful music to make a difference.

      • Lol, did he call SOAD trash? Metallica is trash. The minute they got rid of Mustane, they started sucking. Besides, what kind of douche do you have to be to have your THERAPIST in a recording session. All Metallica has become is a lot of whiny bitches.
As far a SOAD, Serj came here to be in opera. It’s not trash, it’s just beyond your limited musical taste.
Music must evolve or die. Welcome to genres of Rap/Rock, Prog Metal, and Electro-Black Metal.
All music deserves to be heard. (With the exception of Gangta Rap written by a bunch of people who can’t play instruments. If you cannot play an instrument, you are not a musician. Beats don’t count, anyone can make beats. Deal.

I would have put Adult Contemporary and Smooth Jazz as 1 and 2, because they truly are the absolute worst. I’m a jazz fan, so smooth jazz is like an auditory yeast infection.

But don’t criticize the people who can handle something different. I’m just curious, what do you listen to, that’s so much better?

        August 10, 2009 at 8:57 am

      • You know. That’s what the band was thinking about calling themselves. They were thinking up names. And Serj came upon one of Daron Poems titled “Syndrome of a Down” And he liked it. But thety figures that it wasn’t radio friendly. SO they changed it to system. Just fun fact I know.

        July 28, 2009 at 9:24 pm

    • yeah. you should have included more pop punk and emo wannabe punk. green day included. and yeah, the nu-metal is really bad. system of a down is okay, and i wouldn’t really classify them as that, but there still not good. go listen to like meshuggah or mastadon or lamb of god if you want decent metal. for punk, go listen to like the exploited, crass, op ivy, a global threat, and if you don’t like that, you don’t like punk. just clarifying some stuff.

  2. I think when it comes to Techno a lot of people lump all electronic music in the genre, particularly Americans which is ironic as Techno originated in Detroit. The description validates my point “the same drawn-out intro, hyperactive buildup, watery bridge and pounding reentry over and over again”. That sounds like Trance or some other cheesy shite. Even the picture in the article is wrong- no Techno fan would ever dream of dressing like that.

    deanbpm

    May 27, 2009 at 6:22 am

    • That came up on the first page of an image search for “techno”… and my guess is it’s a stereotype of the genre. Fortunately, this doesn’t make it any less ridiculous or funny, I think.

      Peter Kimmich

      May 27, 2009 at 11:11 am

    • I agree. In fact, it’s a bit of a joke in ‘dance music’ circles at just how many genres there are, and at the moment, ‘techno’ does not fit your description. Reminds me of when Eminem disses Moby saying “nobody listens to Techno” – huh? There’s also Electro, d&b, garage, dub step, hard house, fidget house, electro house, deep house, hard house, experimental, grime, trance, minimal, acid, jungle, hardcore, gabba, breakbeat, the list goes on, they are all drug related but not ‘techno’. Otherwise, agree with everything. Well done.

      • ^^its good to see a “music journalist” so open to expanding their own horizons and maybe correcting their completely wrong views about a genre of music they’ve obviously heard about 6 times in their life.

judging by your taste from other posts on this blog, i’m sure you wouldn’t like anything the electronic music genre has to offer. that doesn’t excuse ignorance however.

        zzn

        May 30, 2009 at 12:21 am

      • @ zzn To the contrary, I’ve heard a lot of electronica bands I liked, both major-label and small-time, selling their CDs through Myspace. A friend of mine produces electronic music himself. But it’s not like the stuff discussed here. I consider “electronic” to be a wider field than “techno.”

They have a right to voice their opinions. Just because they don’t agree with you, does that mean they can order you to shut the fuck up, sit the fuck down, and listen to their music? No? So why bitch about it?

And I have nothing agains Country or “Nu-metal” (as a matter of fact I do like Slipknot and Mushroomhead) but EMO, that should be put in a capsule and sent to Jupiter, can’t stand that stuff and even less can I stand the clowns who call them self “Emo”

    • Actually, that sounds familiar — I think I’ve heard that at parties with a lot of Persian people, and the fashion bit sounds like something I’ve seen around also. Basically traditional-sounding music from eastern Europe or the middle east, spliced over a club beat. Very infuriating to hear for too long. Fortunately, it hasn’t quite broken into the mainstream as far as I’ve heard, sparing us the discomfort of being enveloped in it on an everyday basis. Thanks for the heads-up.

  12. The way I see it, there’s good songs and bad songs of all genres. How many in each genre is a personal matter. I have yet to hear a light jazz song that I enjoy (it could happen), but there are thousands of punk songs that I love, and I like half of almost every System of a Down song I hear (and hate the other half). I find that people who denounce entire genres, usually do it because they think they are below them. I came to this conclusion based on the huge number of people who describe their taste as “everything except country and rap”, two styles of music who have little in common at first glance. Then I realized that country folks and urban folks tend to be seen as poor and low class by closed minded individuals. There you have it, my theory about genre hatred, take from it what you will.

    • I dont like rap or country (well some of it is ok). Country i dont like the twangy guitar and lyrics and Rap just dont like it cant put an exact point on it but i just dont like it. I think crunkcore is the single worst genre ever, listen to BrokenCYDE and you will know why.

  13. There’s couple of mistakes in your article. System of a Down isn’t nu-metal, it’s more on the alternative side. Looks like you only heard a few on their singles and decided the rest of their songs sounded the same. They have actual talent and talk about complex and important issues, unlike Slipknot. I suggest you listen to Empty Walls it shows Tankian is a skilled vocalist. Here’s the link: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=17923787

Although I agree on what you said about nu-metal, I think you should exclude KoЯn. They were the ones that invented the genre, and are the only ones in that genre who have talent. The other nu-metal bands are mostly garbage that ripped off KoЯn’s style and got way too much attention.

Also make sure that you mention that Techno does not refer to all electronic music. I does not seem to me that you know much about the electronic genre; you might think it is all the same but that’s an incorrect assumption.

  15. Everything was agreeable until your disdain for System of a Down(SOAD) was shown. I accept the fact that not everybody will like them, and that this is a critical article. However, I have met very few, if any, people that dislike SOAD and feel that for them to be pointed out at the top of your list of most hated music genres seems harsh and personal. Also, Serj Tankian is a musical genius.

  18. This is a pretty shitty list. I am not particularly fond of contemporary country music but it is the most popular radio format throughout the United States. Therefore your theory of “most hated” by general public is debunked- as far as the author goes– if you can’t acknowledge the contributions of country and jazz to present day music– you don’t know shit and I would happily recommend taking a modern popular music class to educate yourself. Maybe you’ll develop some taste and appreciation for things outside of the top 40.

I worked in a big chain retail bookstore, (Book a Million, who suck and are the devil) and they not only played smooth jazz all the time, but the SAME ALBUM. All day. Every day. For the entire nine months I worked there. The customers complained. The employees complained. Corporate didn’t care. God help you if you had a migraine that day. I’ve passed kidney stones less painful than having to listen to that all day with a migraine. It sucked so bad we begged them to pipe in some Adult Contemporary. Like the Satan-juice guzzlers they were, they just laughed in our faces.

  28. The sad part is that some of the “musicians” in these detestable genres actually have the chops to sing, but their taste in what they are using their voices for…ugh. I have yet to figure out why the gay community worships Celine Dion (who I call Saline for her lack of personality in her singing). The woman can sing no doubt, but totally uninteresting music. And Country music ….is just lame. There is a reason why people detest it (although I do believe that there are some country stars who defy this).

The only problem I have with this article is the inclusion of “emo”, which rightfully belongs here: The current wave of what people call “emo” is really just a shitty permutation of what emo really is. While bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy undeniably suck ass, old-school emo like Cap’n Jazz and Sunny Day Real Estate has nothing to do with slashed wrist and shitty hair and is some of the best music I’ve ever heard.

Vaguely political chorous + ad-libbed gibberish lyrics that kind of rhyme + Mediocre guitar solo with sitar effects = system of a down song.

The completely random lyrics are part of the bands style. I really don’t care if you dislike them but please know what you’re talking about if you want to bash them.

But thanks for the call-out anyway.

Personally if I had any argument I would say the broad generalization of country music kind of sucks, mostly because I totally agree and hate radio country music, but I like a lot of the older stuff, and Johnny Cash will always be a classic, plus the older blue grass sounding stuff like Old Crow Medicine Show is pretty difficult for me to shit on.

Although I’m not so infatuated with the music that I’m going to come here and say you’re a moron for not looking deeper into the genre and finding the hundreds of sub-genre’s and rating them individually. That’s clearly not the point of the article.

While I’m not particularly fond of System and most Nu-Metal-esque bands, it was really a low blow mentioning Serj Tankian in particular. He’s used his music (his new solo album) as a brilliant tool of political activism, and I couldn’t help but feel saddened that people are being turned away from his music by the poor opinion of System.

      Peter Kimmich

      June 8, 2009 at 12:25 pm

      • The Washington, DC area is surprisingly fertile with reggae groups. The ESL recording label (that includes Thievery Corporation) has a few reggae acts to check out. Look into See-I, the Fort Knox Five and Sleepy Wonder (who just put out an interesting reggae/rap album). As an aside, Thievery Corporation itself is an excellent melange of about five subgenres of electronica and world music.

Find Dub Side of the Moon, it’s a reggae rendering of Dark Side of the Moon. It may sound sacrilegious and possibly horribly bad but it is actually a solid piece of music.

Hell, I’m a classic rock guy and I’m getting into this stuff. I even like My Chemical Romance and System of a Down. Although, I don’t consider My Chemical Romance to be emo, they really whine much less than Green Day does. I considered Green Day as emo long before that was a term.

New country is too much like the saccharin aspect of pop music. Old country is too close to being like bluegrass. All that twanginess makes me feel like I’m losing my teeth and IQ points at the same time.

However, there is talent in all of the genres, that’s why they have popularity at all.

I’ll give anyone credit who is able to make a living as a musician. More power to ’em. It’s a hard way to live in the beginning and the shelf life is not very long, ten years if they’re lucky.

I may hate their music but I’ll respect their ability to survive because of it.

  44. You missed out the worst one of all: HIPSTER INDIE. Guitar parts that a three-year-old could have come up with, practically no rhythm section, deliberately annoying vocals, lyrics that are always about being bored and self-consciously cool, the snobbiest fans ever, and terrible fashion sense. What’s not to hate there?

    As for your actual choices:

10 – Post-grunge in other words. It’s middle of the road stuff really – it’s just “there”. Pretty inoffensive most of the time, there’s always been music like this.

9 – Not my sort of thing really, but it suits the environment it’s designed for (clubs).

8 – I don’t mind pop punk. As long as nobody goes round thinking it’s actual punk, it can be fun and enjoyable.

7 – Don’t mind this either. And it’s good music to drive around to, which is why people do that.

6 – It’s not that rap rock can never be good, it’s just that so many of the bands that play it recently have been so crappy. RATM and early RHCP are examples of how it can/should be done.

5 – SPOT ON. It’s almost entirely the fans and the fashion that make emo so annoying, the music doesn’t have much to do with it. There’s no specific “emo sound” anyway.

4 – True, although muzak is a very easy target.

3 – Yeah, this is pretty boring.

2 – Again, I don’t like most country so I don’t really listen to it. Music that has some country elements can be OK though (in small quantities).

1 – A cop out. This is basically just bad rap rock that emo kids listen to, so of course it wouldn’t be good. Most bands that would have been called nu-metal 10 years ago are being called emo nowadays. It’s just a marketing thing.

SUGGESTED FIX- Replace every ‘techno’ with ‘trance’. You’ll only get complaints from gamer nerds. Our local rave bar, which normally plays really good DnB, had a trance night, and it was amazing how many basement-dwellers were flushed out of their holes. 50. I agree with this list, except for country, now i am no country fan myself ,im a rock and metal fan,but there was not always screaming guitars and solos. trace back inspirational artist for some of the new bands, rock n roll, metal, and rock in general was not always here, some country should be appreciated, and you apparently do not listen to county at all or you would know that all country songs arn’t about “The underwhelming things in life” it seems that you have not studied up on your music.so get out of your box and see the world,if country is so hated why are the airwaves filled with it? apparently people are liking it,not hating it. thanks.

  51. How can you say that emo is not all that bad? Have you even HEARD “my chemical romance”? or “panic! at the disco”?? These bands are so bad that to listen to them causes me physical discomfort. I want to shove a pitch pipe up the asses of these whiningly pretentious fucks because they really have no musical talent whatsoever. I mean I hate emo kids as much as the next chick, but come on, it’s not a “cultural” thing, emo music SUCKS ASS. Period.

    • do you know what’s seriously more annoying than emo music/fans? ignorant people that incessantly rant about said music and fans that think bands like my chemical romance and…panic!at the disco…” which ive never even heard referred as emo before now and most definitely are not. i agree that the fashion is generally bad, as is any fashion that attempts to make the wearer appear part of some group, but the music, especially the older stuff and NOT the pseudo emo pop-punk that comes on the pop radio, is amazing to those that actually give a shit about song writing.

  52. Take it on the chin, folks.

I know there’s no way SlipKnot will ever be mainstream. Ditto Mushroomhead. Look deep down and you’ll realize this guy isn’t being some elitist, pretentious dick, he’s stating the obvious. YOU KNOW rap is annoying when blared from a lowered Civic with a fart can. YOU KNOW every country song is about how much rednecks eerily love their daughters and beer. YOU KNOW that metal is not what your girlfriend wants to listen to . Ever (note: mine does).

Myself, I hate rap and country, will listen to classical and techno, and use death metal to sleep and pork to.

Variety. Love it. Take what you like and leave the rest.

Except emo. Fuck emo. And those who listen to it. That reeeeeeally should go away. Make it so.

  56. I thought this was a pretty decent list. At least you have the ability to distinguish between different subgenres of rap. Few things are more irritating than some Nickelback fan who “hates rap,” based on shitty radio rap.

However, there are some great “emo” bands, mostly early ones that came to the genre before the MCR/teenage-girl/mall-soundtrack invasion. Sunny Day Real Estate, Boilermaker, Rites of Spring, etc.

    Again, good list.

The lead singer is not a musical genius; he’s a bad impression of Pavarotti. I don’t give a shit what “cause” they stand for; Propagandhi stands for causes too, and at least they put out some quality music. SOAD never got taken seriously by most people for a reason. It’s the same reason nobody gives a shit about that band a few short years later.

I’ll bet if you throw ’em a hundred bucks they’ll play your kid’s birthday party, or Darfur protest or whatever meaningless gesture will keep their fans on forums like this saying things like, “at least they have a CAUSE.” You people are dipshits, through and through.

  71. I pretty much agree with most of this article, with the exception of Country. Country music is not entirely terrible and what was described in number 2 is a particular type of awful, 80s-style, mullet-loving country and western (Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers etc)

Country as an entire genre though is one of the best and most influential genres to ever have existed. It is the basis of pretty much all modern guitar-based genres, as it spawned rock and roll, which ultimately lead to rock and so on and so forth. The only other genre that has probably been more influential is folk, and that’s only because folk helped create country.

  77. This thread is a little dull considering how controversial the topic is, so let’s have some fun and try to breath a little life into it:

It’s doubtful I’ve actually listened to much of the type of music you have listed here, but while scanning channels on the radio I have briefly heard some noise coming from the speakers that some people might call music. Either that or many radio stations enjoy playing what can most closely be described as the sounds of a man screaming from having his genitals caught in a lathe.

One of the most interesting things about this entire article is the fact the modern day Rock world seems to have so many variations. Unlike the early days of Rock when there was either Rock and Roll or Motown, it would seem that modern rock musicians have become so confused that it has become necessary to try and define exactly what kind of music they are trying to make. On the other hand, Country music is just that, Country. No more. No less.

No Gangsta Country, no Emo Country, no Counrty Hip-Hop… just good ol’ Country.

While it’s true that some modern country music has degenerated to the point that is hard to differentiate from rock or pop, and the argument of old country vs. new country was raised in the replies, the genre still remains the same. It’s still just Country.

I should mention that in addition to Country Music, I do enjoy listening to a variety of other music, including Classical, Gospel, Easy Listening, Rock and Roll, especially the pre-’90s music of musicians such as Bob Segar and The Eagles, and with the exception of any kind of rap (which cannot be considered music in any form) I have even heard some modern music that is not only tolerable, but actually enjoyable.

So, with the exception of Country being listed, I would have to agree with your article, as it basically seems to be saying that any kind of music that has degenerated to the point that it requires a definition other than Rock and Roll, Jazz, Blues, Motown, Gospel, or Classical, is nothing more than a pathetic assault on human intelligence.

It’s obvious from reading other comments that many people don’t like Country music, and they probably don’t like Rock and Roll, Gospel, or Classical either, but as one respondent pointed out, everyone has an opinion, and thankfully everyone’s opinion is not the same. It would be a boring world if it was.

I have no doubt that many people will disagree with my opinions, and some will be inclined to express themselves in this forum. If you find that you do have the uncontrollable urge to react negatively and reply with childish comments, I’ll help you out based on some of the previous comments:

I’m not a creepy 30 to 40 year old who listens to 80’s music… I’m 45 years old and have already listed my musical preferences.

I have never heard (or heard of) System of a Down, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, EMO, Serj Tankian, or Cowboy Troy, and it’s doubtful I would want to.

I have heard of Kid Rock, Metallica, Iron Maiden and KISS, and there are very few songs performed by any of them that I like.

Rap takes no talent to perform. Some of the performers may actually be able to sing, but there’s no way to tell from what they do. The performers simply talk or yell as opposed to actually singing, the vocals are monotone and lack any vocal range, the lyrics are illiterate for the most part, lacking prose of any kind, and like the vocals, the musical accompaniment relies strictly on a monotone beat, ignoring rhythm entirely.

In addition to the music genres I have already mentioned, I also enjoy the music of both Celine Dion and Toby Keith. I also enjoy what has been termed ‘Guitar Rock’ which apparently includes music like “Slow Ride” by Foghat and a majority of other music from the ’60s’, ’70s and ’80s where electric guitars were used prominently throughout the songs. More specifically, I enjoy Barry Manilow’s music (for those that do not it should be interesting to note that in 1978, five of his albums were on the best-selling charts simultaneously, a feat equaled only by Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson and Johnny Mathis. He has won three straight American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, and has also been named Radio & Records number one Adult Contemporary artist). I also like the songs “Who Are You” by the Who, “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake, “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard, “Rock and Roll All Night” and “Beth” by KISS, but most of their other songs are little more than obnoxious noise and can’t be considered music.

I’ve been called a total asshole many times Mr. Kimmich. 25% is a good start, so there is hope for you.

I’m not sure what Emo is, but a shrink telling you that you suffer from ‘depression’ sounds better than telling you ‘You’re a whining, worthless, weak minded little wiener that just wants everyone to feel sorry for you. Get over it and get a life!’ It’s also an easy way for the psychiatric community to make a buck off of insurance companies and the useless slobs that want self pity, but don’t really have anything wrong with them. And since they can get away with calling it a medical condition, the pharmaceutical companies can make a fortune by selling drugs that they ‘think’ will cure what they ‘think’ is causing the problem. Here’s an idea. A bullet is cheaper and not only solves your problem, but everyone else’s around you!

It is true Robyn that “country folks and urban folks tend to be seen as poor and low class by closed minded individuals”. I’m sure there are people that can’t understand why rather than move to a cracker box sized house or condo in the city where I would be so close to my neighbors I could hear them breathing, I chose the ‘low class’ life and solace of a home in the country on two acres of land that this poor country boy paid cash for. As far as being close minded, there are a few little things many of us in the country don’t open our minds to. Things like American land and businesses being sold to foreigners; Corporate America moving jobs over seas to increase their profit margin; God being a bad word because it offends some atheist, buddhist, muslim, (I didn’t forget to capitalize those words, they don’t deserve it), or anyone else; Having our tax dollars spent to teach American school children how to speak Spanish; Letting foreigners come here and live tax free for seven years while more taxes get piled on the shoulders of the American people; Or the efforts our government makes to take away our civil and constitutional rights, just to name a few. Yeah, we’re close minded about a lot of the little things the rest of the country seems to not only accept, but embrace. In fact, a certain half-breed muslim whose name I won’t mention once said that (paraphrasing) “as long as we (southerners) have our Bible’s and our guns, we were happy”. Yep, we are, and we’re keeping those Bibles close at hand and those guns locked and loaded. He better hope God, alla and mohamed are all on his side if he tries to take them away from us, because he’ll need all the help he can get.

For those that simply cannot resist replying to my opinions in a negative way, I will not become involved in a name calling session. Rather than react to the mindless droning of those types of individuals, I will simply read their comments and accept the fact that should they ever take an I.Q. test, the results would probably come back negative.

If you can’t make your reply intelligent, at least make it imaginative. “Lay on, Macduff!”

Note: Some of you reading this may be thinking about correcting my closing quote. I have no desire to educate you nor become engaged in a battle of wits with unarmed antagonists in a public forum, so before you do, I advise you to save yourself the embarrassment by first taking the time to read Shakespeare’s MacBeth… ’cause this poor, dumb ol’ closed minded country boy wrote exactly what he meant.

    • two words – HA HA!

well said, well written but you fell a bit short in the relm of rap.

though the “artists” that make up the rap and hip hop world can rarely truly sing, some can, however, beat you over the head with some mind-bending rhymes and alliteration that is in-human.

granted, many of these individuals have the tendency to be ignorant, flashy and foolish s.o.b.’s; but some can be down right poignant and highly talented.

just like it takes talent to growl unintelligably at break-neck speed like Cannibal Corpse; it takes equal talent to flow as effortlessly as the top tier of rappers can.

granted, the true talent needs to be mined out of the vast heap of shite that comprises the hip-hop/rap world, but it does exist.

      otherwise, my friend, rant on.

    June 30, 2009 at 8:34 am

    • Brenden, you’re a moron. Just because Nirvana and Pearl Jam fall under the ‘grunge’ category, does not mean you can group them together with regards to talent. While I agree with you that Nirvana, despite being a huge deal, are not very talented musicians and the music is almost painful to listen to now. But Pearl Jam have stood the test of time and have emerged as the only ‘grunge’ band to survive the hype. This is not a mistake. These are five very talented musicians that continue to make great music and will continue to do so. You have one of the greatest singer/songwriters in Ed Vedder and one of the best lead guitarists to ever be in a rock band in Mike McCready. Pearl Jam is legit my friend.

      Rob

      June 30, 2009 at 12:16 pm

      • Pearl Jam’s the only one to ’emerge’ from the grunge hype because they’re the only band that didn’t have band members die or have serious internal strife.

Grunge face-off: Nirvana kicks’ Pearl Jam’s ass. So do Soundgarden, Alice, and Mudhoney. Hell, even Screaming Trees are more interesting musically.

Though I admit, without Pearl Jam we wouldn’t be blessed with knock-off bands like Nickelback and Creed, and THAT would be a travesty of epic proportions.

There seem to be a lot of System of a Down defenders. Note: System of a Down is not a legitimate band. They are not important enough or versatile enough to be considered influential or ‘genius’. While I do not like either of them, Iron Maiden and Metallica have been quite influential and not just to metal music. SOAD will never be even close to the same level as either of those bands.

  90. I’ve been arguing about music for a long while. It is self-defeating.

My age group likes basic stuff like Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Bullet for my Valentine, Bob Marley, Franz Ferdinald, The Fratelis, Linkin Park, Blink 182. These bands do very little for me and they speak volumes about what generation you were brought up in.

I’ve given up trying to sub-categorize music. A band is in a category or it is not. You just start arguments and classification disagreements.

My music is by ‘song’. I either like a song or do not. Few bands are good enough that every song is a good one. The indie scene is a joke.

    My categories are:
    – Catchy (songs with rhythm)
    – Beautiful (vocalists with good voices)
    – Weird (unorthodox music)
    – Energetic
    – Ambient
You can put any band in these but to like any song, I’ve discovered these:
    – Voice has to be pleasant (Coldplay, Oasis and Radiohead are offenders here)
    – Voice has to go up and down and not sung the same throughout (Offenders are Blink 182 and every indie band in existence)
    – I have to be interested in the song throughout, no ‘waiting for the bit I like’
    – Instrumental talent (You do not have to be amazingly skilled to give an all-around good performance)
    – Epicness (I love music that sounds bigger than itself.)

My most often criticisms of music are ‘this song goes nowhere’ or ‘voice is awful’ or ‘the voice is good but the song doesn’t use it’. I’ve actually had people at my age tell me ‘ignore his singing, the instruments are good’. I was shocked. I think many people ignore the parts of the songs they dislike and focus on what they like.

There is a Slipknot criticism topic in my forums which is interesting.

The dream police, they live inside of my head.

    Improfane

    July 1, 2009 at 7:30 am

    • There are a ton of theories on arguing music (including “don’t talk to me about music”), but definitely one of the big ones is “singing voice matters” vs “singing voice doesn’t matter.” Personally I can get past an abrasive singing voice if there’s real talent in the songwriting, and the music is good. Hence why I can listen to bands like Radiohead and Oasis (and even Babyshambles) without cringing. I’ve also found that the more you notice good songwriting, the more other stuff tends to slip into the background (Libertines, etc). That’s also why people who love explorative, original music tend to be disappointed by the Pop-culture-fication of it, I think. The mainstream trend is to put a lot more emphasis on surface-level things like voice tone and recording quality, and less on things like lyrical depth and musical complexity. Eh, I could go on, but as you said, it is self-defeating.

      Thanks for the comment.

  91. I would like to point out that there is, in fact, good country music out there. I know it’s hard to find, but I swear it’s true. I would recommend Wilco or Ryan Adams or Calexico. Also, there are a few good bluegrass bands out there that I would imagine could be called country like Yonder Mountain String Band or Railroad Earth. Country music like every other genre of music has crap played on the radio, but if you actually look for it, there’s good stuff out there.

    July 1, 2009 at 2:26 pm

    • I’ve gotten into Wilco and Ryan Adams a little, but I think those are considered “alt country,” since they’re more like an alternative version of it. I also think bluegrass isn’t exactly the same thing as country, but people might disagree on that. But yes, those are all definitely better than country-country.

  92. I’m not much of a country fan, however if you differentiate between “Smooth Jazz” (which you hate), and other jazz (which you presumably do not hate), then you should obviously differentiate between “modern country” (which everybody should hate), and real country, which is actually quite good. Please don’t assume that greats like Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard belong in the same cess pool that Montgomery Gentry and Kenney Chesney come from.

  93. I don’t understand all the System hate, or why they get roped into nu-metal. And while neither Serj or Daron can sing by themselves, they’re harmonies can be pleasant. See Ego Brain, their best song…

  94. So, this really isn’t a list of the “most hated music genres”. This is a list of music you hate. All of the genres you have listed here (aside from techno) are the highest grossing mainstream styles around. IE.
Go to a bar in the mid-west: Everyone there likes Nickelback and/or Kidrock. (Trust me on this)
Find me a coffee shop, that isn’t full of snarky little emo kids listening to Dashboard Confessional on their I-pods crying into their Lattes…

  95. Terribly sorry to once again veer off the main path of this article, but just a quick note I’d like to add. It seems many of these people enjoy ripping on many bands for their apparent lack of musical talent, but I’m willing to bet most of them aren’t even capable of stringing together a few coherent notes themselves. These bands have become popular enough to be dissed in blog comments, so they must have done something right. So either start a band and become world famous, or kindly shut up.

    July 2, 2009 at 11:33 am

    • Mainstream music is more about image than it is about music. I’m going to paraphrase (I can’t remember the quote exactly) something said by the frontman of Matchbox 20: “We didn’t do well because we were good, we did well because we were marketed correctly.”

      beeeeees

  96. Well, not all nu-metal is bad, i presume you are saying that the death metal and satan worshiping bands are the worst, but there are some good nu-metal bands i.e SYSTEM OF A DOWN, korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park (saw a linkin park song on a nu-metal tab book so i guess they consider them nu-metal), and more.

    Anthony

Oh well. To each his own.

    July 2, 2009 at 4:08 pm

  99. Jeez
    1. SOAD is a good band in my opinion: they produce an original sound and they actually have lyrics that stand for something.
    2. I could not bring myself to agree with “emo” music being good, or close to that. The sound is sooo generic and straight from the mold that when i hear an “emo” song play i could not for the life of me distinguish it from the last emo song, and for that reason i despise it.
    3. What most people have said about techno is correct, and you really do have to be a frequent listener to pick up on the subtleties of the genre as it is too often generalized by the masses. I would suggest hitting up some clubs or seeing a famous dj live before you knock a style of music that everyone in the world short of the U.S. adores.

  100. NOBLE LIST! Dude, that was very satisfying to read, at times hilarious. Your entry on pop-punk is laugh out loud funny.

I say noble, because when you make a list like this, your own proclivities come out (a suspicious soft spot for emo, in your case), and more dangerous yet, at some point the list will personally incriminate all of us. I once spent two weeks obsessed with a System of a Down song, and I liked angsty post-grunge songs in highschool.

Generally, my feel is that when a genre starts to be overplayed (most of the numbers on the list), or stereotype itself (see every number on the list), we start to recognize the inherent shitty elements we may have overlooked. And sometimes music is just bad.

RECOMMENDED PASTIME (That will make you doubt humanity): Smooth jazz. There are fans. Many of them. On Youtube. They emerge like flies after even the most pathetic trolling attempts, and I want someone to tell me what sort of person waxes nostalgic about smooth jazz on the internet.

Oh, and someone needs to make this list international, because we’ve got to get generic Japanese pop up there.

  102. I guess my not-so-helpful comment to add to all this shit is that I seem to like a little from each category; I liked some of 3DD before they flipped out and went all “FUCK YEAH MILITARY YEAH”, and for me, modern Country was a major stepping-stone away from traditional gospel (yech) and old ‘rock’. I just can’t seem to find a genre or band whose sound I absolutely, positively love and enjoy.

  104. okay i sort of agree with this blog but tbh all music should be respected and considered properly before deciding if its bad or not(unless it comes under a Disney record label)

i agree that new metal is a bit of a dismal pit but i disagree that System Of A Down fall into this catagory to me they should have their own catagory cuz i think there great

the guitar lines are fast and heavy
the drums kick ass and are tight as fuck
and Serj Tankian’s singing voice is one of the most amazing voices out there

i respect that people have their own opinions and i do to

but some people just cant see tallent when it rubs its ass in their face

  105. I agree with everything you said till System of a Down. I love that band, however that is my opinion, just like your disdain (and many people who posted on here’s) for them is your opinion. Most of the mainstream influx of crappy music has to do with the record companies shoving that tripe down our throats. The mindless masses eat it up and thus we’re left with tripe rotting on the air waves.

Obviously extreme metal, hardcore punk, classical music, etc., are going to have a much smaller hater-base since they’re not mainstream music.

But yes, Klosterman came to the same conclusion … which is just one more vote for that opinion, I’d say. Cheers to the CK.

I have had many years of classical voice training, and opera is by far the hardest style to perform. Plus there are lots of good Operas out there, you just have to sift through the boring ones.

  124. I only say this because my mother was an opera trained vocalist, but to say that opera is terrible is probably the worst thing anyone could ever say. You’re taking a style of music that is eons old and comparing it to being waterboarded (had to make a current events reference). Have you ever actually taken the time to listen to those people. If you compare the vocal talents of any opera singer vs. Serj, he would fail miserably. Just imagine someone hacking his arm off with a spoon. That is how bad he would sound comparatively. Granted, opera isn’t my first choice nor my tenth when it comes to music styles, you still have to appreciate the sheer vocal talent these people have acquired over several grueling years of training. It’s not something that you just decide to do one day. Have some respect

Short of System of a Down – who else would you call Nu Metal (which indeed does suck).

  133. I get the feeling that you do not like the pop-scene that much. Nu-metal is a what I think of as pop-metal (Soad is included yes). Gangsta rap = pop-rap, smooth jazz = pop-jazz (pop-punk goes without saying). I agree with you on 99% of all of the above, except possibly country, but as you said there is a whole new and old country debate. Much of the country now I find to be pop/new-country which could fall into the category of Emo, but there are others who still remember beer-drinking and hell-raising are still quite important.

Granted I do think even within some of these hated genres there are those who have done the above correctly. Anthrax, who arguably was the first band to do rap-rock (probably more rap-metal), they did an ok job. But that did not become their staple.

I think goo goo dolls fall under adult contemporary… I have not heard anyone “hate on them”, but eh just my ramblings.

Good list though, and it was quite hilarious.

I absolutely hate, for lack of a better description, Top 40 Country (Toby Keith, Sugarland, Rascal Flats, Big & Rich). I think it’s the sorriest excuse for music ever and would be my #1 pick for worst genre of music. But there is some great alt-country bands/singers (Dar Williams, Iris Dement, Iron & Wine). I would even classify bands like The Reverend Horton Heat, The Orson Family, Southern Culture on the Skids and even The Cramps as alt-country (well maybe The Cramps are a bit of a stretch).

    August 3, 2009 at 9:39 pm

  140. I think probably the only one on that list that I hate is gangster rap. For me, it has to do with lyrics. I can’t listen to a band for long if their lyrics suck. Inevitably, almost all bands sound exactly the same after about 4 or 5 songs, sometimes less. Thus, if there is nothing interesting for me in the lyrics, I can’t listen to the same crap anymore. Thats why I like very very few rap songs, because the majority of them are about women they may be attracted to or how awesome they are after having one single on the radio and how they are the greatest ever. The fact that Soulja Boy was even a hit in my mind just destroys the legitimacy of Hip-Hop. Of course, when there actually is a song that lyrically is about something,(and yes im going there), such as Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park rapping about his Japanese relatives in concentration camps, people go batshit insane and point to it as an example of how rap can be smart. Sure it can be, but it rarely ever is, and if it was smart more maybe it wouldn’t be shat on all the time.

Going back to the lyrics issue, one of my favorite bands is Anberlin, mostly because even though I will honestly have to admit that all their songs sound the same, I think they write amazing lyrics. I like almost all of their songs because I can enjoy all of the different things they sing about and the clever metaphors and contradictory images that they use.

As for techno, I love techno, but when I say that, I pretty much mean all random electronic music with either no singing or female artist singing something beautiful but forgettable. I cannot at all tell the difference between trance and house and techno and hardcore and happy hardcore etc. Who really cares? All of these different “styles” really come down to shit you can dance to. And why is that necessarily a bad thing? Just because I wouldn’t sit at home and relax while playing Sandstorm, doesn’t mean the song doesn’t pump me up in an awesome way. Another example would be the beautiful voice of the female singer in “Caught Up in Your Love” by Sy and Unknown. Not only that, but the scratching in this song is some of the sickest I have ever heard, it is practically a song in itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FhsW4vwE2Q#t=2m09s
    I mean that takes talent.

  141. I will agree with your hate of Nu-metal, however i believe you have it defined wrong. as a couple of your examples actually have understandable lyrics, i believe they are therefor excused from the nu-metal genre. i do believe a prerequisite to nu-metal is sounding like gibberish.

  149. I agree with the sentiments about country music, but I think you’re referring to what I like to call “today’s best country”. To illustrate my point just compare anything by Johnny Cash to anything by a country artist who’s career started after 1990 or so. What I consider country helped inspire truly great artists such as Bob Dylan, The Band, and Neil Young.

i liked your list, yet i mantain that the hate for country is really hate for pop with twangy guitars made in nashville. real country died with johnny cash.

  155. So you’re pretty much saying the only kind of music you listen to is rock…OK very broad music taste there

  156. I thought the list was awesome, even though I like SOAD. :-) I would probably say that they play ‘neo-progressive metal’. I totally get the “adult contemporary”! After being “forced” to listen to Soul Provider by Michael Bolton, for 16 hours a week for 6 months during the early 90’s, I tend to feel physically ill everytime I hear him.

  157. I would like to come to Gangsta Raps defense…When you mean “Gangsta Rap” you SHOULD have referred to it as “NEW Rap” because the only Gangsta Rap worth mentioning is N.W.A., Wu-Tang Clan, Onyx, early Three Six Mafia and early Bone Thugs N Harmony.

  158. You obviously don’t know what the genre emo is. Emo is 80’s-90’s emotional hardcore. You’re just saying how people have emo kids. They generally don’t even listen to emo. Usually pop rock, pop punk, alternative, screamo, post-hardcore, etc. They don’t listen to bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, The Promise Ring, Cap’n Jazz, etc.

    Nice try though.

  159. Really? SOAD = Nu-Metal?
Sounds like the person who wrote this article has some serious classification problems when it comes down to music. We might as well move on and just start calling everything Nu-Metal. I mean, its not like a vast majority of SOAD’s songs arent very hardcore at all. Oh wait…

  160. People can like System of a Down if they want, and people can hate them if they want. You all should just keep quiet, honestly, no one cares about your opinion. If they like it then yay, if they don’t then okay, we don’t need to hear it.

    Anonymous, I guess.

  161. Holy crap. This forum isn’t even what it was supposed to be, it’s called “Top 10 Most Hated Music Genres. Ever.” Not, “Let’s all criticize Nu Metal!” If you hate Nu Metal, then go start a forum that says it in the title.

  162. I can’t believe that Nu-metal is actually on the list. There is a whole lot of music worse than Nu-metal. Have you ever even heard Screamo?! I can’t even describe how bad it is!

    Doesn't matter

    September 23, 2009 at 8:04 am

  163. Fuck yeah, there’s worse shit on the air than Slipknot and Mushroomhead put together: screamo, crunkcore, deathcore (bree bree, muthafuckers) to name a few… Listen to some Attack! Attack! and brokeNCYDE and be ready to actually appreciate Slipknot even a bit… or not but man they’re far from the worst.

imho SOAD ain’t really nu-metal, atleast they’re not very compareable to the rest of the nu-metal scene.. Pretty much you either like ’em or you hate ’em.

My opinion matters so much really, lol

    September 24, 2009 at 10:48 pm

  164. Where may we ask is the new genre that Brokencyde and other artists with no talent class themselves under, “Crunkcore”?

The worst music genre, ever. Even worse than all of these put together.

  165. i wonder what the writer of this blog listens to him(her)self? ok, i dont like most of these genres, but still saying that nu-metal is the worst thing ever.. ok, i dont like soad and slipknot myself, but i grew with bands like korn & limp bizkit, and i still like them, so it is your own opinion, but dont say that everything is bad….

  166. I haven’t investigated System of a Down, and I don’t plan to. But I have no real opinion on their talent.

I’m just glad to see that even though everyone may not like the music I like, at least they realize what sucks.

    Alice in Chains rocks.
    Clutch rocks.

  167. Ok, I got about 1/3 the way through, and got bored of reading so many comments. The entire post was about what people in general dislike. While certain bands may have been inappropriately categorized, such as SOAD as nu-metal, it’s not the bands that the writer was saying were terrible, or anything else. All he was saying, was that the general populace do, in fact, dislike these things.

  169. I love this, actually I love Stumble Upon for bringing me to this site. With Music always playing a big part in my every day life, whether it be me listening to it on an every day basis at work or jamming out to my bro and nephews band Your Name in Vain (Google them), I’ve come to learn as you should to, that….Everyone has a different musical taste and because someone else likes a band such as System, it really inherits no warrant for comments such as “you suck” or “system of a down is garbage and your musical taste is garbage”. Yes, there are definitely some bands/genres that I have no desire to listen to, but it may be someone else’s favorite. There were way to many comments to read all of them, so I’m sure that someone may have wrote a more condensed version of what I just said somewhere else along the lines.

Now, I’m just waiting for the childish comments to be thrown at me :) I always love hearing immature people, it makes my day to know that there is always someone out there more incompetent than me :)

  170. The very purpose of this list is truly appalling. All music is equal and deserves credibility in its own rights. Respect other people’s opinions, lest they disrespect yours.

If you happen to dislike nu metal then that’s perfectly understandable, but it gives you no right to do a terrible thing by going out and shouting to everyone that is it the most hated style of music.

I’ll bet my left arm there are plenty of people, myself thoroughly included, that happen to enjoy listening to artists such as Slipknot, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. I also happen to enjoy just about every other style of music under the sun. But for the few artists I don’t like, I don’t run around yelling that is shittest musicians in the whole world.

Honestly, is this how low we are? I’m pretty sure that people would have much rather that you put a top ten most LOVED music genres.

  171. disliking genres is Ok, but hating them!? MJ is right, ur being ignorant.

U who can only say ‘soad sucks ass’, u suck ass. unless u have a picture of them sucking ass, plz tell us why u dont like them (like we care) and stfu

  172. Great list. And although System of a Down isn’t that bad, nu metal in general is horrific.
